The short version
RemoveBkgd removes image backgrounds on your own device. Your images are not uploaded, stored, scanned or shared. We do not require an account to use the tool, and we do not sell personal data. The rest of this page explains the details in plain language.
Images you process
When you load an image into RemoveBkgd, your browser reads the file and runs an AI model on it locally using WebAssembly and WebGPU. The image is held in memory in the browser tab and is discarded when you close or refresh the page. It is never transmitted to our servers because the product contains no upload endpoint. The result is generated in the browser and saved directly to your device when you choose to download it.
Model downloads
The tool downloads an open-source AI model file the first time you process an image — around 42 MB. These files come from a public model-hosting service and are cached by your browser. This request fetches the model only; no image data is sent with it.
Information we may collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard technical logs such as your IP address, browser type and requested pages for security and reliability. If we use privacy-friendly analytics, it is aggregate and cookieless, and it never receives the content of your images. We do not build advertising profiles.
Cookies and local storage
RemoveBkgd may use your browser’s cache and local storage to keep downloaded model files and your interface preferences, so repeat visits are faster. We do not set advertising cookies. Clearing your browser storage resets this at any time.
Your rights
Because we do not hold a copy of your images, there is nothing of that kind to access, export or delete on your behalf. For any limited technical data described above, you can contact us to exercise applicable access, correction or deletion rights under GDPR, CCPA or similar laws. We respond as quickly as we can.
